The Park – an area of around 2.21 acres on the outskirts of the town – has been developed by Richmondshire District Council, North Yorkshire County Council and Yorkshire Forward, to help generate jobs and attract wealth to the area. A number of businesses have already rented office units built by the District Council and some offers for the fully serviced plots of land have been accepted. Councillor John Blackie was instrumental in securing European Funding for the project and will be welcoming people to the opening. “We are delighted to have the opportunity of showing people the wonderful facilities that are available at the Park, he said. “The site is fully serviced, the units have been finished to the highest specifications and there is plenty of parking. Added to this is some of the most spectacular scenery in the country on the doorstep, which makes it an ideal choice for anyone wanting to relocate to the area or start up a new business.” Also present at the opening ceremony will be representatives from Yorkshire Forward, the Upper Wensleydale Business Association, Business Solutions Bedale Ltd, SCENE and the Local Strategic Partnership. Wensleydale Creamery represents one of the area’s greatest retailing success stories. The world-famous cheese, still produced in Hawes, has won countless awards and the business itself was recently named ‘Manufacturer of the Year’ by the Yorkshire Independent Grocers Association. “It gives us great pleasure to open the Upper Wensleydale Business Park, which we hope will attract plenty of new businesses to the town. The success of an initiative like this also has a much wider impact on the economic and social prosperity of the whole area,” David Hartley said.
