Urban Regeneration Project

This project is tackling the problem of the physical, economic and social decline of the town centre, by a comprehensive approach to the improvement of land and buildings.

Exciting progress is being made; the project is helping to achieve a more vibrant Town Centre economy and improved historic core.  The key priorities of the scheme are the conversion and re-use of derelict buildings, improvements to commercial properties, restoration and sympathetic adaptation of listed buildings.  This is undertaken through advice and grant allocation to stimulate revitalisation of Halifax Town Centre: repairs to historic buildings, adaptations to underused property, environmental improvements.

With the help of European funding, the project was widened to include areas on the edge of the town centre which suffer from dereliction.  In this last year, it has also focused on the Piece Hall Renaissance area and succeeded in gaining extra funding from the Townscape Heritage Initiative.

This project receives both SRB and URBAN monies.
