Sponsor: Richmondshire District Council

Project: Silver Street Reeth Phase 11 Project

ERDF Grant: £240,545
Priority: 4
Measure: 2

Silver StreetAn innovative scheme, 5 new workspace units are soon set to open at the successful Reeth Dales Business Centre at Silver Street in the village of Reeth.  This will bring a real boost to the Reeth and the surrounding area both in terms of employment and tourism.

This scheme was developed in two phases.  The first phase, the Silver Street Workspace development, involved the partial development of an area of vacant land adjacent to existing workshops on the western side of Reeth. This comprised of the installation of a new electricity supply to meet the needs of the existing occupier and the reminder of the site to be developed and would eventually generate 500m2   of new workspace. The development of this local industrial and commercial employment base would reduce the dependency on agricultural employment, diversifying the local economy and decrease the level of ‘out-migration’ from the area. With the support of Richmondshire District Council, a local craftsman and the European Regional Development Fund funded this phase (ERDF £13,500).

The second phase, the Silver Street Reeth Phase II Project has been jointly funded by the European Regional Development fund, Richmondshire District Council, Yorkshire Forward and the private sector. The purpose of the project is to create wealth and high quality, sustainable jobs at Reeth by the development of craft workshops in 5 units at the Dales Centre.  The development brings forward new premises for new business investment and business expansion in Reeth and will, therefore, generate new business sales and create/accommodate jobs in the small market town of Reeth and its hinterland.

Phase II funding includes £240,000 of ERDF Objective 2 funding.   The project has accommodated 7 existing jobs, created 3 new jobs and is expected to generate over £1.1m of increased business sales.

0.19 Hectares of Land have been developed and 299m2 of Premises provided.
