The Octagon, Hull

Alt Description: Shows plaque at official opening of Octagon by Alan Johnson MP on 18 November 2005. A state of the art neighbourhood centre was launched on the 18 November 2005, forming part of a multi million pound project, receiving ERDF, to regenerate and develop local areas in Hull.  The project is being delivered by the Goodwin Development Trust and is the culmination of an ambitious dream to provide services for people on the Thornton Estate.

The building, officially opened by Alan Johnson MP is a unique concept providing access to health and social services that benefit the needs of the local community.

The services offered include a 67 place day care nursery, open 50 weeks a year, increasing chances for parental take up of training and work to maximise economic opportunities.

In the longer term the scheme will deliver over a hundred jobs and training places
as well as providing a community owned and managed centre that responds to
local needs. Shows outside view of Octagon building.
