GO-FOR-IT! Three local people gaining work experience in horticulture and landscape at the GO-FOR-IT! Project

The GO-FOR-IT! Project has been working in partnership with ‘build’ and Green Works with a view to increase skill level, accredited achievement and employment prospects.  The project helps women and from all areas and young people from ethnic minority communities, particularly from West Central/King Cross, to access careers in the construction industry, which currently suffers from severe skills shortages, and trainees receive training and work experience.

The project provides initial personal development and pre-recruitment training, working with recognised employers to find waged training placements with day release.  Employers are offered close support, such as accessing grants and cultural awareness training.

Ateeq Asghar, Omar Qadeer, Umar Ali are three recent beneficiaries of the GO-FOR-IT! Project and have successfully completed a Level 1 NVQ Building Construction Operative’s course and gone on to study Level 2 in Brickwork.  They are now employed by Green Works, a new local social enterprise designed to give local people training opportunities in horticulture and landscape.
