Eastmount Community Recreation Centre

The Eastmount Community Recreation Centre project was completed in the Autumn of 2005, after 15 months of construction works to redevelop a former school site, to create a new Community Recreation Centre on the Longhill Estate, on the east side of Hull.

The new facilities are to be managed by volunteers from the Longhill Ward Community Association having received funding totalling £1.8m from the European Regional Development Fund, Football Foundation and Kingston Upon Hull City Council.

Margaret Gill Chair of the Longhill Ward Community Association said “The completed works have exceeded our expectations.  The new Eastmount Centre is a far cry from the old run down school.  With these superb new facilities, we will be able to provide a comprehensive range of activities for our local community.  A lot of people, many of whom are unpaid volunteers have worked extremely hard to make this happen, and as Chair of the Association I would like to pay tribute to all their hard work”.

There has been a high demand for usage of the new facilities and since opening its doors in November 2005, the local community have enjoyed participating in wide range of activities.  To date this project has assisted one ICT initiative and one network, two organisations and one transport initiative. It has created one full-time equivalent job and one part-time (0.5).  It has helped nearly 27 local residents find employment and 25 people access IT.
