The project addresses the need to refurbish and update the facilities in Bridlington Spa and re-establish it as a landmark building both physically and in people’s minds. These improvements are essential to enable the Spa to maintain its contribution to the local economy. Bridlington Spa is a much cherished and valued amenity which houses events of national and international repute. The functions and attractions that come to the Spa bring considerable added value to the town’s economy. However the Spa faces the crossroads. To sustain and improve its market position and contribution to the economy of the town the Spa must address the challenges it currently faces. It is far past its “best by” date. Parts of the building date from over 100 years ago and its facilities need to be updated and improved to meet the needs of the type of activities that are likely to come to the building in the future. The project is set to finish by the end of March 2008 and accommodate 48 jobs and create 110 new jobs. The picture shows Terry Hodgkinson, Chairman of Yorkshire Forward with Councillor Stephen Parnaby, Leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Alison Biddulph, Director Europe at Government Office for Yorkshire and The Humber and on the right is Nigel Pearson, Chief Executive or East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
