Launch of Bretton Business Park in DewsburyPresentation group standing behind a commemorative plaque

Bretton Business Park, a new business park in Dewsbury, was recently opened.  The Kirklees Mayor Cllr Margaret Fearnley unveiled a commemorative plaque to celebrate the completion of the first stage of the £22 million business park, which is expected to be completed in 2007, bringing 700 new jobs to the local area.

Bretton Street Developments, supported by £1.78 million of European Regional Development funding and an investment by Kirklees council of £860,000, have completed a 30,000ft ² unit and Bretton Street Enterprise Centre Phase III.

Cllr Pinnock said “The business park is a tribute to the council’s commitment to the regeneration of the area and is set to be a great success.  Interest from local companies seeking to re-locate to the modern purpose built premises has already been very strong and local people will benefit from the investment in the area, from increased employment and investment opportunities”.

Bretton Street Enterprise Centre Phase 3, offers seven new purpose-built business units for rent by small and medium sizes businesses and start up companies. This Centre adds to the eight council managed business Centres already in operation across the district, providing premises for over 200 businesses for tenants ranging from Asian catering, to high tech engineering companies.

Mamuna Kola, Manager of Bretton Street Enterprise Centre said “We are delighted that Phase 3 of the centre is completed. The seven new self-contained units add to our current portfolio of 36 units which have proved to be an invaluable resource for local start up businesses. They can be used for light manufacturing, catering or office space”.

The centre has an excellent location with easy access to the motorway and public transport networks and tenants will benefit from; flexible leases - running from one month to twenty five years, free car parking, 24 hour access on request, monitored fire and security alarm systems, disabled access and separate utility supplies to each unit. The centre also has a dedicated management team who will provide support to tenants and act as a first point of access to other council services offering help to businesses.

Current Bretton Street tenants, The Flavour House, have seen their company flourish whilst based at the business centre. Directors Paul King and Paul Dawkins said: “Bretton Street has provided us with the perfect base to develop our business. We started out in a small unit on a flexible lease, soon moving to a larger self contained unit to cope with the growing demand for our crisp-favouring product. We are now considering taking a larger unit in phase 3 to support the expansion of our business”.
