East Riding Of Yorkshire Business Units Help Retain Local Workforce

A company based in Market Weighton has remained in the local area and has retained its local workforce thanks to a European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) business support project.

Oystertec, an innovative engineering company, is now based in The Becklands Enterprise Village in the town, which has received over £300,000 in European grant funding.  The cash injection, distributed by Government Office, provided 750m² of much needed small business premises in the area, on previously derelict land.  To date, Becklands Enterprise Village has accommodated more than 50 jobs.

Oystertec had proposed to transfer its operation to Leeds and Poland as its expanding business found a lack of suitable premises in the area.  Despite the proposals, Oystertec remained buoyant and were keen to remain local in order to retain the high number of employees who were residents of the Market Weighton area.

The company, which is the parent firm of Europower Hydraulics, approached the East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Business Investment Team to try to find suitable premises in Market Weighton.

As a result of the intervention of the Business Investment Team, the company was able to acquire one of the mid-range units in the Enterprise Village to house its management and admin team.
